The Arisaka Type 38 was the standard Japanese infantry rifle through WWI and into WWII, chambered in the mild 6.5x50mm Semi-Rimmed cartridge. Designed by Colonel Nariakira Arisaka, it was well-made and reliable, with an enclosed receiver that provided some protection against debris. The Type 38 was used extensively in Manchuria, China, and the Pacific. Its design influenced the later Type 99 in 7.7mm.
