The SA80 / L85A1 is the British Army's standard-issue individual weapon, a bullpup design chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. When first issued, it was plagued by reliability problems including failures to feed, extract, and fire. The original L85A1 developed a poor reputation for unreliability in field conditions, particularly in desert and arctic environments.
