The Beretta 92F is the original variant submitted for and selected in the US military M9 trials. The F designation adds a rounded trigger guard, a curved trigger guard front face for a two-hand hold, and a larger magazine well bevel compared to the earlier 92S. The 92F is the direct military contract pistol that became the M9. Post-trial commercial 92F production ran through the mid-1980s before the 92FS replaced it.
