The Beretta 92F was adopted as the US military M9 in 1985 after winning the XM9 Service Pistol Trials, replacing the M1911A1 after 74 years of service. The 92F features an open-slide design inherited from the M1934, a double-action/single-action trigger, an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker, and a 15-round double-stack magazine. Over 3 million M9s were produced for the US military and it remains in service.
