The Bergmann Model 1896 was one of the earliest commercially successful semi-automatic pistols, designed by Louis Schmeisser for Theodore Bergmann. The No. 3 variant in 7.65mm used a simple blowback action and was sold commercially in limited numbers. It represents one of the founding designs of the semi-automatic pistol era, predating the Luger and appearing in the same year as the C96 Broomhandle.
