The Colt Combat Commander is an all-steel version of the Lightweight Commander, offering the shorter 4.25-inch barrel of the Commander in full steel construction rather than the aluminum-frame Lightweight. It became more popular than the Lightweight Commander for carry use among shooters who preferred the durability of steel and could accept the additional weight. The Combat Commander has been continuously produced and is a practical alternative to the full-size Government Model.
