The Colt M16A1 Sporter is the civilian semi-automatic equivalent of the M16A1 issued to US forces in Vietnam, featuring the characteristic 20-inch barrel, triangular handguard, bird-cage flash hider, and three-prong flash hider on earliest examples. One of the earliest Colt civilian AR-15s and a direct ancestor of all subsequent civilian AR production. Sold to the civilian market during the Vietnam era.
