Colt produced a limited commercial run of the 1911A1 Government Model chambered in .30 Carbine pistol cartridge in the early 1970s. This unusual chambering used the same cartridge as the M1 Carbine rifle in a standard 1911 platform. The result was a high-velocity, low-recoil 1911 with a distinctive muzzle blast. Production was limited and these are now collected as novelties and unusual 1911 variants by Colt enthusiasts.
