The Colt Model 1917 Army revolver was produced alongside the S&W Model 1917 to supplement M1911 production during WWI. Built on the large New Service frame and chambered in .45 ACP using half-moon clips, approximately 151,000 were delivered to the US Army. The Colt M1917 and S&W M1917 were often issued together to the same units and are collected as companion pieces representing American WWI arms production under pressure.
