The Degtyarev DP-28 was the standard Soviet light machine gun of WWII, recognizable by its distinctive flat pan magazine (Degtyarev disk) mounted on top of the receiver. Gas-operated and air-cooled, it equipped Red Army infantry squads as the primary automatic weapon from the early 1930s through the late 1950s. The disk magazine holding 47 rounds gave sustained fire capability, though reloading the pan was slow. The DP-28 was used from the Spanish Civil War through Korea.
