The Sten Mk II was the standard British Commonwealth submachine gun of WWII — one of the simplest and cheapest firearms ever mass-produced for military use. A stamped steel blowback design, it cost approximately five dollars to produce. Over four million were made across all marks. The Sten was airdropped to resistance fighters across occupied Europe and used by virtually every British Commonwealth soldier who needed a close-range automatic weapon. Its horizontal magazine was an ergonomic weakness.
