The first production pistol with a double-stack magazine, offering 13+1 capacity, it was adopted by over 50 nations and became the most widely issued military pistol in history alongside the 1911. Produced for both the Allies and the Axis (FN produced them under German occupation), it served in virtually every major conflict of the 20th century.
