The FA MAS (Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne) is the formal designation for the FAMAS rifle as manufactured by GIAT Industries, the French government arsenal. GIAT took over production from MAS in the 1970s. The FA MAS designation encompasses both F1 and G2 variants. Currently produced in very limited numbers for continuing French contracts.
