The SL8 is the US-import civilian version of the G36, re-engineered with a thumbhole stock, fixed furniture, and 10-round magazine to comply with the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban features restrictions. The 20.8-inch barrel is longer than the military G36 to meet import requirements. The SL8 shares the G36's gas-piston mechanism and rotating bolt. Discontinued after the AWB sunset but not resumed in the original configuration. A bridge-era collector piece.
