The H&K VP70 (Volkspistole 70) was the world's first polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol — predating the Glock 17 by over a decade. Chambered in 9mm with an 18-round double-stack magazine, it used a double-action-only trigger and could be fitted with a shoulder stock that converted it to a 3-round burst fire weapon. The VP70 demonstrated polymer frame construction but was ahead of its time commercially and saw limited adoption.
