The Holland & Holland Paradox is a unique British sporting arm that combined a standard shotgun with the ability to fire a solid slug with rifle-like accuracy. The Paradox achieved this by cutting shallow rifling into the last few inches of otherwise smooth shotgun barrels. This allowed a single gun to serve as both a bird gun and a dangerous-game rifle in the colonial era, appealing to sportsmen in India and Africa who did not want to carry multiple guns. H&H held the Paradox patent and produced these guns in significant numbers between 1885 and WWI.
