The 416 Nitro Express for double rifles was developed in the late 1920s to provide a double-rifle alternative to the 416 Rigby bolt-action cartridge. Holland & Holland chambered a small number of Royal Double Rifles in 416 NE for clients who wanted Rigby-caliber power in a double-rifle format. The 416 NE is dimensionally distinct from the 416 Rigby and the two are not interchangeable.
