The 700 Nitro Express was developed by Holland & Holland in 1990 at the request of a private collector who wanted the most powerful sporting rifle cartridge ever made. Firing a 1000-grain bullet at approximately 2000 fps, the 700 NE generates over 8900 ft-lbs of muzzle energy — more than any other shoulder-fired sporting cartridge in production. Fewer than a dozen Royal Double Rifles in 700 NE are known to exist. These guns require custom-made ammunition at over $100 per round.
