The Galil AR (Assault Rifle) is the standard infantry rifle version of the Galil platform — an 18-inch barrel with folding stock derived from the Finnish Valmet RK 62 action and AK-47 gas system. Adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces in 1972, it replaced the FN FAL and served until displaced by the M16A1 and later the Tavor. The AR features a bottle opener on the bipod — a famous practical addition for Israeli soldiers.
