The original Luger chambering was 7.65mm Parabellum, developed by Georg Luger as a bottlenecked pistol cartridge. The first Lugers were chambered in this caliber before the 9mm Parabellum was developed in 1902. Swiss military adoption used the 7.65mm version. Commercial exports in 7.65mm were significant in the early 20th century, particularly to the United States and South America.
