One of the most mechanically unusual pistols ever made — instead of the slide recoiling backward (blowback), the barrel moves forward while the breech remains stationary, stripping and chambering the next round as the barrel returns. Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher's extraordinary mechanism worked but was expensive to manufacture and commercially unsuccessful. Only a small number were made. A significant mechanical curiosity in firearms history.
