The C96 Red 9 is a variant of the Mauser Broomhandle produced during WWI specifically for German military use in 9mm Parabellum — the standard German military pistol cartridge — rather than the original 7.63mm Mauser. The stocks were carved with a large red figure "9" to distinguish them from the similar-appearing 7.63mm guns in field conditions. Red 9 Mausers were issued to Imperial German forces on multiple fronts and are among the most sought Broomhandle variants.
