The Gewehr 98 was the standard German service rifle of World War I and the rifle that established the long Mauser action as the global standard for sporting and military bolt guns. Its controlled-round-feed claw extractor and three-position safety became industry benchmarks. The G98 saw action from 1898 through the end of WWI and continued in limited service through WWII as a sniper platform.
