The Nagant M1895 was the standard Russian Imperial and Soviet sidearm from 1895 through WWII and beyond. Chambered in the unique 7.62mm Nagant cartridge, it used an unusual gas-seal mechanism where the cylinder moved forward before firing to seal the barrel-cylinder gap — making it one of the only revolvers that can be effectively suppressed. Over two million were produced at the Tula and Izhevsk arsenals. It served Russia through WWI, the Revolution, WWII, and into the Cold War.
