The Type 14 was the standard Japanese military pistol through WWII, chambered in the proprietary 8mm Nambu cartridge. Designed by Kijiro Nambu (not the original Nambu Type A), it was issued to officers as a personal sidearm. The Type 14 has an unusual external cocking piece and no manual safety — only a grip safety. Late-war production quality declined noticeably. The pistol is widely collected as a WWII Japanese artifact.
