The Norinco Type 59 is the Chinese military copy of the Soviet Makarov PM, produced at state arsenals for the People's Liberation Army following Sino-Soviet military cooperation of the 1950s. Mechanically identical to the Soviet PM, it served as the standard PLA officer and NCO sidearm through the 1980s. Export examples were widely distributed to Chinese-aligned movements and nations.
