Eugene Reising's compact submachine gun, adopted by the US Marine Corps early in WWII and by FBI agents when Thompson supplies were insufficient. A unique delayed-blowback mechanism made it more accurate than the Thompson but also more sensitive to fouling — it earned a terrible combat reputation in the Pacific where jungle mud caused frequent stoppages. Marines at Guadalcanal reportedly threw them into the ocean and found captured Japanese weapons preferable.
