The Remington 700 Classic in 17 Remington honored Remington's own high-velocity 17-caliber centerfire cartridge, introduced in 1971 as the flattest-shooting varmint cartridge commercially available. The Classic series straight-comb walnut gave the .17 Rem a traditional presentation unusual for an extreme varmint cartridge. Annual production was limited; the combination of an unusual cartridge and the Classic series prestige creates a collectible piece of Remington history.
