The original Ruger Blackhawk .44 Magnum Flattop was the first single-action revolver chambered for the .44 Remington Magnum cartridge, introduced in 1956 simultaneously with the cartridge itself. The Flattop designation refers to the flat-top frame without a topstrap housing an adjustable rear sight. The .44 Magnum Flattop was produced briefly before being replaced by the Super Blackhawk with a larger grip frame. Original examples are rare.
