The Security-Six was Ruger's first double-action service revolver, produced from 1971 to 1988 when it was replaced by the GP100. Designed to compete directly with S&W's K-frame Model 19, the Security-Six used a solid-frame design with a solid-barrel lug — construction Ruger considered more durable than S&W's side plate approach. The 4-inch barrel was the primary law enforcement configuration and was widely issued by police departments through the 1970s and 1980s.
