The Ruger Standard was Bill Ruger's first pistol and the gun that launched Ruger as an American firearms company. Chambered in .22 LR with a fixed barrel and toggle-lock action inspired by the Luger, it offered exceptional value at a time when .22 target pistols were expensive. Over 25,000 were sold in the first year. The Standard Model and its descendants (Mark I, II, III, IV) have been in continuous production ever since, becoming one of the most successful American .22 handgun designs.
