The Saiga-12 is an AK-based semi-automatic shotgun produced at the Izhmash factory in Russia. It uses the same long-stroke gas piston action as the AK-47 adapted for 12-gauge shells. The unconverted sporting configuration features a thumbhole stock and trigger group moved forward of the magazine to comply with import restrictions; most American owners convert them to a traditional pistol-grip AK layout with the trigger in the proper position.
