The Schwarzlose Model 1907/12 was the standard heavy machine gun of the Austro-Hungarian Empire through WWI, and continued in service with successor states into WWII. Designed by Andreas Schwarzlose, it used a unique delayed-blowback mechanism rather than gas operation. Water-cooled and belt-fed, it was a robust, reliable weapon that served on the Italian front, Eastern front, and multiple other theatres. Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and the Netherlands all used it.
