The P225 is a compact, single-stack 9mm designed to SIG Sauer's entry into the West German police pistol trials of 1978. Mechanically similar to the P220 but slimmer and shorter, the P225 was adopted by the West German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) and many state police departments as the P6. It remained in German service for decades. The slim profile and modest weight made it a favored off-duty and plainclothes carry gun among European officers. Reintroduced as the P225-A1 in 2015 with a modern rail and updated ergonomics.
