The SIG P228 is the compact version of the P226 adopted by the US Army as the M11, primarily for use by CID agents, pilots, and others requiring a smaller sidearm than the M9. It uses the same DA/SA operating system as the P226 in a more compact frame. The M11 served alongside the M9 throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
