The SIG P229 is a compact stainless slide variant of the P228 design, developed to handle the higher pressures of the .40 S&W cartridge. Later chambered in 9mm and .357 SIG, it became the primary pistol of the US Secret Service, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and numerous federal agencies. The stamped and machined slide is distinct from the earlier P228 forged slide.
