The Smith & Wesson Model 19 "Combat Magnum" was developed at the request of Bill Jordan, the US Border Patrol officer and gunfighter whose book "No Second Place Winner" became a classic of handgun lore. Jordan wanted a lighter .357 Magnum revolver than the N-frame Model 27 — the result was a K-frame (medium) sized revolver that dominated US law enforcement for two decades. Became the standard police service revolver in departments across America through the 1960s-1980s. The stainless steel version is the Model 66. Discontinued in 1999, reintroduced in 2019.
