A modified Model No. 3 designed by Major George Schofield for cavalry use. The improved top-break mechanism could be operated with one hand on horseback. Issued to US cavalry and used by Jesse James (who called it his preferred sidearm) and other frontier figures. The shorter .45 S&W cartridge created logistical problems as it did not fit the Colt SAA.
