The M1 Garand was the first semi-automatic rifle adopted as the standard infantry weapon of any nation. Designed by John Garand at Springfield Armory, it served as the primary US infantry rifle in WWII and Korea. General George Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised." The 8-round en bloc clip ejects with a distinctive metallic ping when empty.
