The Sterling L2A3 is the standard submachine gun of the British Army from 1953 through its eventual replacement. Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, it features a distinctive side-mounted magazine feeding from a curved 34-round magazine, a folding stock, and robust reliability in adverse conditions. The Sterling saw action in numerous British colonial and Cold War engagements. Its silenced variant, the L34A1, was widely used by special operations forces.
