The AUG A2 introduced a Picatinny rail section integrated into the carry handle, replacing the fixed 1.5x scope of the A1 with an optic-ready mounting interface. The 20-inch barrel and overall configuration are unchanged from the A1. The A2 represents a midpoint between the fixed-optic A1 and the full-rail A3 M1. Used by Australian Defence Force as the F88 Austeyr and several other export customers.
