The pre-ban Steyr AUG Z with original thumbhole stock is the most collectible configuration of the civilian AUG. Imported before the November 1989 import ban, it retains the original semi-transparent polymer magazine and the optional 1.5x Kahles optical housing. The thumbhole stock was a US import adaptation of the military pistol-grip stock that preserved the ergonomic intent.
