The Roth-Steyr Model 1907 was the first semi-automatic pistol adopted as the primary service sidearm of any cavalry force, issued to Austro-Hungarian cavalry in 1907. Designed by Karel Krnka on a Roth patent, it fed from a fixed magazine loaded by stripper clip and used a rotating barrel lock. The deliberate design choice to make the magazine non-detachable was intended to prevent soldiers from losing magazines in cavalry engagements. Over 99,000 were produced.
