The Chinese Type 54 is a direct copy of the Soviet TT-33 Tokarev, manufactured at the Norinco (China North Industries) facilities. It was the standard People's Liberation Army sidearm from the 1950s through the 1990s. Large numbers were exported to communist-aligned nations and eventually imported to the United States as surplus. The Type 54 is functionally identical to the Soviet original and is the most commonly encountered Tokarev variant in the US market.
