The Romanian Md.52 (Pistol Model 1952) is Romania's licensed copy of the Soviet TT-33, manufactured at the Cugir arms factory. Functionally identical to the Soviet original, the Md.52 served the Romanian military and People's Militia for decades. US imports in the 1990s and 2000s introduced large numbers to the American market as affordable Cold War surplus. Some imports were modified to add a thumb safety for import compliance.
