The Vepr-12 is built on the RPK/RPK-74 receiver — heavier and with a milled (not stamped) receiver compared to the Saiga-12's stamped AK receiver. Molot produced it with a more robust action suited to sustained fire. The longer, heavier RPK-pattern receiver gives the Vepr-12 a noticeably more solid feel than the Saiga platform. Like the Saiga, US import ban was imposed in 2014.
