The Walther P88 represented Walther's attempt to create a modern high-capacity double-action service pistol for the late Cold War market. It features a double-stack 15-round magazine, a decocker lever, and a refined Browning-type locking system, moving away from the P38 falling-block design. Production was limited and it was eventually replaced by the P99.
