The Westley Richards Droplock Double Rifle in 450 Nitro Express was produced in the years immediately following the Droplock's 1897 patent, when the 450 NE was the dominant big-bore cartridge in use. After the 1907 ban on 450-caliber cartridges in India and Sudan, new production in this caliber largely ceased. Pre-1907 Droplock doubles in 450 NE are the earliest expression of the hand-detachable lock applied to a double rifle.
