The Winchester Model 1873 is "The Gun That Won the West" — the most popular lever-action rifle of the frontier era. Chambered originally in .44-40 Winchester, it was also available in .38-40 and .32-20. Its popularity was cemented when Colt chambered the Single Action Army revolver in .44-40 at the same time, allowing cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws to carry one caliber in both rifle and revolver. Over 720,000 were produced through 1923.
