The Winchester Model 1876 Centennial was introduced to mark the American centennial and offered in more powerful cartridges than the 1873 could handle. Chambered in .45-75 Winchester, .45-60, and .50-95 Express among others, it was designed to compete with single-shot rifles for big game. Theodore Roosevelt carried one to the Dakotas. Production totaled about 63,871 through 1897. It is a transitional design between the 1873 and the Browning-designed 1886.
